10 Horror Films For Halloween 2018

Every year I look for horror films perfect for viewing over the Halloween weekend, this time I’ve decided to choose ones that are available to purchase on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom.  So let’s get started here’s 10 horror films for Halloween, enjoy!

10. The Last House On The Left (1972)

  • Directed by Wes Craven

There’s no doubt this might not be to everyone’s taste, some forty odd years later Wes Craven’s 1972 film is still as shocking as it was upon release and remains a truly disturbing film.

9. House of Mortal Sin (1976)

  • Directed by Pete Walker

We all trust men of the cloth right? Well in this film that might not be the best advise…

8. The Innocents (1961)

  • Directed by Jack Clayton
  • Starring Deborah Kerr

If you like a more psychological horror then The Innocents sees Deborah Kerr play Miss Giddens a woman that has just agreed to be governess to two children that live on a country estate. However something else appears to be at work causing the Miss Giddens to doubt her own senses.

7. Ghost Story (1981)

  • Directed by John Irvin
  • Starring Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas & Douglas Fairbanks Jr

Who doesn’t love a good ghost story this 1981 film has a decent cast and rather good story set against a snowy backdrop.

6. To The Devil A Daughter (1976)

  • Directed by Peter Sykes
  • Starring Christopher Lee

Christopher Lee is exceptional in this Hammer film based on the novel of the same name by Dennis Wheatley.

Halfway through my “10 Horror Films For Halloween 2018” feature and there’s some real gems still ahead.

5. The Old Dark House (1932)

  • Directed by James Whale
  • Starring Boris Karloff, Melvyn Douglas, Charles Laughton, Lilian Bond, Gloria Stuart

If you are looking for the perfect haunted house film then look no further. This one sees three stranded travellers seek shelter in the old dark house at the top of the hill. This one’s extremely atmospheric!

4. Wishmaster (1997)

  • Directed by Robert Kurtzman
  • Tammy Lauren, Andrew Divoff &  Robert Englund

Are you ready for some classic nineties horror featuring several horror icons?

3. The Plague of the Zombies (1966)

  • Directed by John Gilling
  • Starring André Morell, Diane Clare & John Carson

This one’s a truly great Hammer horror without Lee or Cushing anywhere to be found. We do however have the rather excellent André Morell taking the lead against an unexplained plague.

2. Orphan (2009)

  • Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra
  • Starring Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard & Isabelle Fuhrman

Following the loss of their third child Kate and John Coleman decide the time is right to adopt. After visiting to an orphanage they find a perfect little Russian girl named Esther. However soon after her arrival they begin to wish they had not made the decision to adopt.

1. Night of the Demon (1957) aka Curse of the Demon

  • Directed by Jacques Tourneur
  • Starring Dana Andrews, Peggy Cummins & Niall MacGinnis

This one has just come out on Blu-ray in the UK a few days ago and is a must see and must have film in every horror fans collection.

Final Thoughts: 10 Horror Films For Halloween 2018

Ten really good horror films that provide something for everybody taste I think, that just about concludes my “10 Horror Films For Halloween” feature. Note as I mentioned earlier all of these are available to purchase on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom from retailers such as Amazon, HMV and Zavvi.

I’m planning on watching the recently released Powerhouse Films Blu-ray Night of the Demon over the weekend or maybe even on Halloween as I’ve just recently watched the other nine titles in my list.

Happy Halloween!!!
