The music has that classic British war/comedy feel that is simply the perfect accompaniment to the on screen fun.

Acting / Characters

The Acting suits the period and is done very well.

Will Hay plays British schoolmaster William Potts / Muller a German expert in espionage. Hay is on top form and makes The Goose Steps out a joy to watch. Great delivery along with perfect comic timing takes the film to another level.

Backed up by an outstanding cast with the likes of Peter Ustinov and Charles Hawtrey the film flows along nicely.

In fact Charles Hawtrey who plays a trainee German spy is in fact the stand out performer behind Will Hay. His inclusion taking the film up a notch or two. Similarly to Hay he seems to have a natural talent for delivering his comedic lines effortlessly whilst perfectly matching the films tone.

Whilst Hawtrey is probably best known for his appearances in the Carry On films it’s nice to see him in other film roles.
