Assault (1971) Blu-ray Review

Network recently released a British thriller from the seventies on to Blu-ray, what’s more it has been fully restored. Have they done a good job? Well I’m about to find out, so without further ado here’s my Assault (1971) blu-ray review.

Plot

When a schoolgirl is sexually assaulted in woodland near the school the police struggle to find the perpetrator. Due to the attack none of the pupils are allowed to walk home alone however one the girls decides to break the rule and goes through the woods to meet her boyfriend. Unfortunately she is attacked and killed only this time art teacher Julie West (Suzy Kendall) sees someone standing over the murdered girls body, will she be able to identify the murderer?

Style / Direction

The film is directed by Sidney Hayers with the cinematography handled by Ken Hodges.

Music / Audio Effects

The music is composed by Eric Rogers and is used maybe a little too much to provide the drama.

Acting / Characters

Decent performances all-round.

Conclusion: Assault (1971) Film Review

A decent enough British psychological thriller that’s has plenty of red herrings and is certainly worth a look.

Network has done an excellent job in restoring the film which results in a clean and sharp image. On the extras front there just a trailer, image gallery and booklet which pretty good for a lesser known title such as Assault. Overall I have to commend Network for putting out an excellent Blu-ray release.
