Blood Father Blu-ray Review – Excellent Mel Gibson 2016 Action-Drama

I’m a fan of most of Mel Gibson’s work, films such as Lethal Weapon, Payback, Mad Max, Air America to name just a few. So when I saw the trailer for his latest film last year my interest was piqued. So without further ado here’s my Blood Father Blu-ray review.

Plot

John Link (Mel Gibson) is an alcoholic ex-con recently released from prison on parole. He has setup as a Tattoo artist in a trailer park and is doing ok apart from the fact his seventeen year old daughter left home and hasn’t being seen since.

All that changes when his daughter Lydia (Erin Moriarty) finds herself placed in an impossible situation by her so called boyfriend Jonah Pincerna (Diego Luna).

When that situation goes terrible wrong Lydia is forced to flee for her life and contacts her father.

However the people she has angered are not the type of people whom simply allow you to go free.

Now father and daughter must keep one step ahead or face the consequences.

Style / Direction

The cinematography in Blood Father is truly spectacular at times, we a lot of the action taking place in a remote desert landscape. The action sequences aren’t bad either ranging for shoot outs to bike chases.

Music / Audio Effects

The music definitely suits the film without being particularly memorable outside the film and is by composer Sven Faulconer.

Acting / Characters

Mel Gibson is on top form playing ex-con and alcoholic John Link. He has spent a several years behind bars deciding not to reveal the other parties involved in his crimes. That meant he missed out on seeing his daughter growing up.

Erin Moriarty plays the Link’s seventeen year old daughter Lydia. The first time she appears I found her to be somewhat annoying and I thought it would only proceed to become worse once she hooked up with her father. Thankfully I was completely wrong and by the end of the film I had nothing but praise for her performance.

In many ways she is a carbon copy of her father, she’s in with the wrong crowd, does drink and drugs. In fact when she first meets her father she is indeed a little high.

The chemistry between father and daughter is excellent and really makes this film engrossing.

Elsewhere Diego Luna plays the films bad guy Jonah Pincerna. He represents some serious people and he drags Lydia into a nightmare situation.

All in all the acting is spot on, no complaints.

Conclusion: Blood Father (2016) Film Review

There is no doubt this is the type of film I want to see more of from Mel Gibson. He is tough but still manages to deliver a few cracking one liners in the manner only he can.

Blood Father is an outstanding action drama that is gripping from start to finish. Add this one to your must see list!

I don’t know if Mel Gibson will return to more of these types of roles in the future but I for once sincerely hope he does.

Conclusion: Blood Father Blu-ray Review

Clearly the picture and sound are outstanding as it’s a brand new film but what else do you get when you purchase the blu-ray version?

Well you actually don’t get anything other than the film and I’m kind of ok with that. I don’t feel the need for anything major maybe the trailer should at least have been included.
