UK Gift Ideas
With Christmas fast approaching we decided to throw a few gift ideas your way, starting off with gifts for film lovers. Following this feature will be one focusing on some classic television series available on DVD and Blu-ray, there may be a few you had long forgotten, but it’s films we are looking at in this feature.
It’s a great time to pick up a collection of films that would have cost a small fortune a year ago. Note prices are correct date of article (8th December 2016). Here are a few selected great collections/box sets we recommend, prices are from Amazon.co.uk and HMV.
If you have a Blu-ray player and HD television watching classic movies that have been digitally restored and released on Blu-ray really is mind-blowing. We have all see classic films on television for many years and they are usually poor faded prints in the wrong aspect ratio, full of speckles and flickers of dirt. With these restored Blu-ray versions it is in many ways like watching the film for the first time.
But why buy the Blu-ray version when you could just stream them off Netflix? Well streaming simply does not deliver the same quality as Blu-ray as quality can vary depending on your internet connection. The other big reason of course is that we film lovers want our own copies that we can watch whenever we wish.
