Christmas is coming so lets take a look at a festive blu-ray offering. The film in question is Fatman (2020) starring Mel Gibson. Its a dark comedy packed full with action. Should you be adding this to someone’s Christmas stocking? I think it’s time to find out, this is my Fatman blu-ray review.
- Fatman (2020)

- Genre: Dark Comedy / Action
- Directed by Eshom Nelms / Ian Nelms
- UK Rating N/A

Plot
Chris Cringle (Mel Gibson) and his wife Ruth run a Christmas present factory in Alaska. However times are hard and the kids are proving a tough crowd to please.
Furthermore the US government has reduced the Cringle ‘s income forcing them to take on a project from the US military.
If all that wasn’t enough a kid, Billy Wenan has put out a contract on Chris Cringle which hitman Jonathan Mille takes on.
Style / Direction
Written and directed by Eshom Nelms / Ian Nelms they deliver a dark look at the world that Santa Claus or Chris Cringle has to operate in. Does it work? Absolutely it looks fantastic, the camera work and angles are stunning at times.
May be that’s down in part to Johnny Derango who the one responsible for the film’s cinematography.
Not only does it look great but the plot moves along at the perfect pace.

Music / Audio Effects
The film’s score comes from Mondo Boys.
Acting / Characters
Mel Gibson plays Chris Cringle a man disillusioned with the world. He still gets out and delivers the presents to the children every 25th December but his heart is no longer in it. Gibson plays this role expertly and really impresses.
Walton Goggins takes on the role Jonathan Mille a kind of hitman for hire. He believes Chris Cringle let him down as a child and is hired be another angry child, Billy Wenan to take him out!
I should also mention Marianne Jean-Baptiste, she plays Ruth Cringle wife of Chris. She’s the optimist and the one that gives Chris a much needed kick up the backside. Marianne Jean-Baptiste plays the roles exceptionally well.
In fact all of the actors turn in very good performances which really do help to turn this wacky world/story into something special.

Conclusion: Fatman Blu-ray Review

The version I’m reviewing here is the German one as once again UK is left without a blu-ray release. All you need do is change the language to English in the menu and everything is good. The film is from 2020 so picture quality is not an issue.
There also an interview with Mel Gibson (in English) that’s worth a look.
