I Am Wrath Blu-ray Review – 2016 Excellent Travolta Action Movie!

I love a good action film, but find most of the newer ones miss the mark.  What about this one?  Here’s my I Am Wrath Blu-ray Review. I remember seeing the film trailer for I Am Wraith and thinking it’s probably a Death Wish style film.  Now to be fair it kind of is but with a slight twist.

So by now you will realise that it is indeed a fast paced action film, starring John Travolta.

Plot

John Travolta plays a seemingly ordinary guy, Stanley Hill who is on his way home from a business trip.  He is met at the airport by his wife. From there they make their way to the car park where they are set upon by a group of muggers.

It goes bad, very bad leaving Stanley Hill badly beaten but worse still his wife has been murdered.

With the cops seemingly unable to bring the killers to justice, Stanley Hill is left with a decision to make.  If they won’t bring them to justice who will?

I think you know where this is going and I’m not really spoiling the film with any of these plot lines.  You see the film doesn’t hang around getting to this point.  In fact within the first 10 minutes a lot of this has already occurred.

What happens next is pretty good as the film takes a slightly different turn than I had expected.  Nothing too unexpected however, there will still be a pretty high body count by the end of the film.

This is a very fast paced story with plenty of action.

Style & Direction

As I just said the film moves along at a tremendous pace and yet it never feels rushed or that the plot is too thin.

I was taken aback by this, normally you sacrifice some of story for action but not here.  The story is perfect for the genre allowing everything you want from an action flick to occur.

As the bodies fly a neat slow-mo effect is used, I know we have seen this probably too many times in recent films but it suits the flow of the film perfectly.

This is a good looking film nicely shot with a touch of style.

Actors / Characters

John Travolta in the right type of film is very easy to watch.  This type of film is the perfect vehicle for him.  Now I won’t say too much on his character as it may inadvertently lead to spoilers.

He does have a friend named Dennis played by Christopher Meloni who helps him out on his quest for vengeance.

The chemistry between the two is spot on and really does make the film.

Oh I should also note that Stanley’s wife Vivian Hill is played by Rebecca De Mornay.  She plays her part well enough, that said she does get killed after 7 minutes 5 seconds into the film.

Alright without spoiling it too much she does reappear a few times in flashback scenes but I wouldn’t choose this film if you are a fan of hers as you may me a little disappointed with her brief appearance!

On to the bad guys, the muggers, drug dealers and the corrupt, all put in convincing enough  performances adding to the overall enjoyment.

No complaints for any of the casting, all seemed fine.

Conclusion: I Am Wrath (2016) Film Review

I had hoped this would be a decent enough action flick however I was wrong.  Yes this is way better than just decent. In fact I fully expect this to become a bit of a cult classic. I love the way the filmmakers didn’t bother to pad out the first hour of the film and went straight into the action and main plot points.

Sometimes you need a slow build up to fully develop characters and sometimes it just feels like filler.  Here they clearly know the story they are going to tell and get on with telling it.

It moves along so speedily but never feeling rushed.  Usually you find a film hits a lull in proceedings but not here.  The 90 minutes simply flew past and I was left fully entertained.

So in short it looks good, the plot is fine for the genre and the acting is very good. Travolta nails his character and delivers a very good performance.  I particularly enjoyed Christopher Meloni performance as Dennis, maybe we could have had a few extra scenes involving him. The scenes with both of them are probably the highlights of this film, the ending was a fitting conclusion to the story.

Conclusion: I Am Wrath Blu-ray Review

Clearly it’s a 2016 film and therefore has perfect picture quality.

There are no extras included on the Blu-ray, but that no real issue for me.  I’m not a fan of too many extras, quality over quantity is my motto.

I’d rather have nothing than lots of boring and uninformative nonsense. I still have nightmares from the extras on The Hobbit, Peter Jackson walking around with a camcorder introducing every single department and person ever to work on the damn film.

Interesting stuff only please…
