John Carpenter’s Starman releases on Blu-ray in the UK

For fans of older films there really hasn’t been a better time. That’s because many titles are now making their way on to Blu-ray having been lovingly restored. There are still a few poor quality Blu-ray releases slipping through however but these are becoming fewer and far between. Out today on Blu-ray in the UK is John Carpenter’s cult classic science fiction film from 1984, Starman

Starring Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen the story centres on the arrival of an alien visitor whom takes up the invitation to visit Earth that was recorded upon the 1977 Voyager 2 space probe. Despite the message’s depiction of a warm and peaceful welcome the alien visitor receives the complete opposite.

John Carpenter’s Starman releases on Blu-ray in the UK

Another of today’s new releases includes yet another outstanding John Carpenter film, Christine from 1983. The story comes from none other than Stephen King. This would have been my pick of the new releases however it’s currently showing as being temporarily unavailable on Amazon’a website so I’ll have to keep an eye out for when it does release.

Powerhouse Film’s still have it listed as coming out on 2nd October 2017 and you can purchase from their website but it’s not clear whether they have it in stock either.

Other releases out today include, Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge (2017), unfortunately Amazon’s website is currently showing another one of today’s releases L.A. Confidential (1997) as being temporarily out of stock.

Classic UK Television Series hits Blu-ray

If like me you loved watching the original Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased) television series starring Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope then you are in for a treat. Network have restored all the episodes and whilst you could buy as each volume individually as they were restored, today marks the complete series boxset that I guess most fans would have been waiting for.

Sticking with classic British television and another TV series releases on Blu-ray by Network, Department S: The Complete Series.  I’ll be honest this one’s not my favourite series but I’m still glad to see it being restored and released on Blu-ray.

I’d have to say I more than happy with today’s line-up with Starman & Christine particular highlights.  Upcoming Blu-ray releases have yet more classics coming including several Hammer films, check out my article on those above.
