Having just reviewed the first John Wick film it’s now time to see how Keanu Reeves approaches chapter 2 in my John Wick Chapter 2 blu-ray review. Before I get into that the reason I’m revisiting the first two movies is of course because the third outing John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum hits cinemas in the UK & USA on the 17th May 2019. Now is the best time to refresh your memory by obtaining both films on blu-ray. Now it’s time for my thoughts on the second outing for Mr Wick.
- John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
- Genre: Action
- Directed by Chad Stahelski
- UK Rating 15
- Discs: 1
- Released By Warner Bros
- Blu-ray Released: 12 June 2017
Plot
The second film follows on just a few days after the events of the first one. It begins with John Wick believing he’s finally out of the killing game. However following a visit by Santino D’Antoni he finds himself thrown right back into the fray. Santino requests that John honour a blood oath but John refuses to accept and that leads to an explosive response.
The film is directed by Chad Stahelski with the cinematography handled by Dan Laustsen. As with the first movie the action sequences are brilliantly captured on camera giving the action an authentic feel.
Music / Audio Effects
The music is composed by Tyler Bates & Joel J. Richard and as with the first really suits the John Wick world enhancing the on screen visuals.
Acting / Characters
Just as in the first film Keanu Reeves is terrific as hitman John Wick, he’s a man of few words and a dark demeanour. The supporting cast aren’t bad either with Ian McShane reprising his role as Winston, owner of The Continental Hotel’s New York branch.
Laurence Fishburne makes an appearance whilst Ruby Rose plays the badass Ares that keeps on appearing when John is already seemingly occupied. Riccardo Scamarcio plays Santino D’Antonio the real villain of John Wick Chapter two and the one that drags Wick back into a world he keeps trying to break free from.

- Keanu Reeves as John Wick

Conclusion: John Wick: Chapter 2 Film Review
John Wick Chapter 2 is more of the same, maybe there’s even more action and violence but if you enjoyed the first film like I did then Chapter 2 expands on the John Wick world which makes it even more interesting with more characters being revealed or fleshed out. Like the first film it’s a thoroughly entertaining action movie stylishly made and a must see for fans of the first movie.
I can’t wait to see John Wick 3 which releases on the 17th May 2019. In the meantime if you haven’t seen both films so far use the time before the third film to become acquainted with the world of John Wick as it’s a blast.
Add John Wick Chapter 2 to you must see list of films.
