Macabre Blu-ray Review – Unnerving 80’s Lamberto Bava Horror

Next up in my Italian film season is another blu-ray release from 88 Films which came out recently. The film I’m taking a look here, Macabre (1980) is from director Lamberto Bava and is an Italian horror. Let’s find out if it’s worth a look, so without further ado here’s my Macabre blu-ray review.

Plot

Jane Baker is having an affair with a man called Fred. She rents a room at the residence of a blind man called Robert Duval. However whilst she is enjoys her time with her lover tragedy strikes when one of her children dies at home. Further tragedy is also just around the corner sending Jane into a mental breakdown.

Style / Direction

Directed by Lamberto Bava he delivers an intriguing and compelling horror experience. Franco Delli Colli is the one responsible for the cinematography.

Music / Audio Effects

The music is provided by Ubaldo Continiello.

Acting / Characters

Overall the acting is passable with the English version of the film being dubbed.

Conclusion: Macabre (1980) Film Review

I have to say I kind of enjoyed this Lamberto Bava Italian horror. It builds the tension well and delivers a good ending. Fans of the genre should definitely give this one a look.

Having undergone a 2K remaster from the original archival materials the picture quality now looks pretty flawless.

On the extras front 88 Films has included a new interview with Lamberto Bava which is worth a look as is the ‘Alternate Italian Open & End Titles.’

Macabre (1980) is yet another excellent blu-ray release by 88 Films.
