Continuing my Tom Cruise season is the 2002 sci-fi film Minority Report which just so happens to be directed by Steven Spielberg. It’s available on Blu-ray and has been for quite some time but should you be buying it? Well I’m here to give my opinion so without further ado here’s my Minority Report Blu-ray Review.
- Minority Report (2002)
- Genre: Sci-Fi
- UK Rating 12
- Discs: 1
- Released By 20th Century Fox
- Blu-ray Released: 17 May 2010
Plot
Imagine a world in which you could be found guilty of a crime you are yet to commit. That is the reality in Minority Report, the year is 2054 and the PreCrime police unit identifies and arrests people who will go on to commit murder. John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is the chief, the man who has to carry out these arrests. However is the system full proof, how would you feel if you were the accused? That’s exactly what John Anderton is about to find out.
The story is based on “The Minority Report” by Philip K. Dick who also wrote other classic sci-fi novels that “Blade Runner” and “Total Recall” are based on.
Style / Direction
Steven Spielberg delivers a stunning visual vision of the future but one that still feels familiar and one that’s maybe not too far from reality. I’m not referring to the ability to predict the future as such but building up profiles of each person based on their online lives.
Cinematography by Janusz Kamiński
Music / Audio Effects
John Williams provides the score and it fits well with the sci-fi style of the film.
Acting / Characters
Tom Cruise stars as Chief John Anderton the man running the PreCrime police unit. He puts in a typically strong performance which makes the film engrossing and enjoyable.
Conclusion: Minority Report (2002) Film Review
Minority Report comes from the mind of Philip K. Dick the writer behind Blade Runner and Total Recall. Spielberg is the one tasked with bringing that vision to the big screen and he does so in some style. The film looks terrific with the tense and confusing plot that twists and turns until the final reveal. Tom Cruise is the perfect choice as the lead actor and makes this film easy to watch.
