Kubo and The Two Strings & Anthropoid

Heading to the cinema this weekend?  Time for a look at the weeks new movie releases for 2nd September 2016 in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand.  This week sees the release of the WWII drama Anthropoid (UK) & the animated film Kubo and The Two Strings (UK)

Over in the United States we have the release of horror film The Disappointments Room among the highlights.

Film News

Well not much worth / interesting to talk about or report on this week.  Box Office wise it’s pretty much as you were from last week.  In the US Don’t Breathe remains top taking $15,833,223, whilst in the UK Sausage Party enters in top spot taking £2,690,156.

Ben-Hur (Drama)

Remake and re-imagined version of the epic story.


Anthropoid (War, Drama)

Based on true events in the Second World War, Operation Anthropoid is the story of a mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich.


Hell Or High Water (Crime, Drama)

A family are forced into a desperate scheme to try and save their farm.


Captain Fantastic (Drama)

  • Released 9th September 2016 UK (15) 119 Mins

An eccentric father (Viggo Mortensen) raises six kids in a remote forest but tragedy shakes the families world apart when his wife commits suicide.  He decides the family should embark on a road trip.


Don’t Breathe (Horror)

Teenager Rocky lives with her parents who as somewhat neglectful.  She promises her younger sister that they will run away together. In need of cash she breaks into a blind man’s home but finds a far from helpless man.


Kubo and The Two Strings (Animated Adventure)

  • Voiced by Charlize Theron; Art Parkinson; Ralph Fiennes

Kubo decides to joins forces with Monkey and Beetle.  They set out on a adventure with aim to save his family

The Disappointments Room (Horror)

  • Released 9th September 2016 US (R) 92 Mins
  • Kate Beckinsale; Mel Raido; Gerald McRaney; Lucas Till

A family move into a new home looking for a new start. They discover a hidden room within the attic.  Following strange unexplained events within the house they discover the key to the room.


Sully (Drama)

  • Released 9th September 2016 US (PG-13) 95 Mins
  • Directed by Clint Eastwood
  • Tom Hanks; Aaron Eckhart; Laura Linney

This is the story of flight 1549 and pilot Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and his First Officer Jeffery “Jeff” Skiles.  Shortly after take-off  the plane hits a flock of geese and loses power forcing the piolt to land in the Hudson river.


When the Bough Breaks (Thriller)

John and Laura want to have a baby and having tried all other possibilites opt to find a surrogate.  the choose Anna , all seems fine but as the pregnancy progresses Anna starts to have a dangerous fixation the husband, John.

Quite a few new releases this week, in the UK with have the WWII film Anthropoid and animated film Kubo and The Two Strings maybe worth a look.  However I would give Ben-Hur a miss, despite having Morgan Freeman it fails to deliver.

In the US the horror film The Disappointments Room looks like it may be a good bet, although for people in UK we are still awaiting a release date.
