National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Review

It’s Christmas so that means it’s time to spend some time with the Griswalds!  So lets get started we my National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation review.

  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Review (1989 Film)
  • Directed By Jeremiah Chechik
  • Written By John Hughes
  • Music By Angelo Badalamenti
  • Starring Chevy Chase : Beverly D’Angelo ; Randy Quaid ;  Johnny Galecki ; Juliette Lewis

Plot

This outing National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, sees Clark Griswald (Chevy Chase) on a mission to have the perfect Christmas, with all the family generations coming together at Clark’s home.  Alas you know all will not go well and what a ride we are taken on. Right from the beginning when the Griswalds are on their way to choose the tree we are treated to some great comedy car action.

The craziness just keeps coming whether it’s Clark putting up the house Christmas lights or when Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) shows up with his family to enjoy the festivities there is never a dull moment.  If you have seen it before you will know exactly what I’m referring to, if you are yet to see National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation you are in for a treat with plenty of fast paced comedy action.

Cast

Chevy Chase is outstanding as are all all the cast, in particular Beverly D’Angelo as Ellen Griswold (Clark’s wife), they have great chemisty.  Randy Quaid’s arrival in his RV really takes the comedy action to another level.

Music & Writing

The film’s soundtrack has you in the Christmas spirit right from the opening credits and that’s got to be a good sign.

John Hughes deserves a huge amount of credit from writing National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Hughes known for such classics as Planes, Trains and Automobiles , Uncle Buck, Home Alone and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to name just a few.

Conclusion: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)Blu-ray

Maybe it’s because I’m getting older but that old cliché “They don’t make them like this anymore” seems to ring true.  This film was made in 1989 and I don’t see a lot of classic Christmas movies past the nineties.  This year’s offering Love the Coopers or to give it’s UK name Christmas with the Coopers attempts the family Christmas comedy but ultimately fails to deliver.

The good news is what with the advent of Blu-ray and fancy televisions most of are classic movies are being digitally remastered meaning we can continue to enjoy those movies we grew up with for years to come.  Not only that but we can introduce our children to them and enjoy them as a family, providing they are family friendly ones of course.

I guarantee if you are not in the Christmas mood now you will be having watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!
