Solace Blu-ray Review

Plot

FBI special agent Joe Merriweather (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is left stumped by a series of murders. All of the victims have something unique in common. In order to try and move the case forward he invites his friend and psychic Dr. John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins) to help him and his FBI partner Agent Katherine Cowles (Abbie Cornish) crack the case.

Style / Direction

The film is directed by Afonso Poyart whilst the cinematography is handled by Brendan Galvin. Overall the movie is well structured and shot. I’d say for the most part its also stylishly filmed.

Music / Audio Effects

The music comes from Brian Wayne Transeau.

Acting / Characters

The film revolves around four main characters played by Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Abbie Cornish and Colin Farrell.

I guess the most interesting relationship at least for the majority of the movie is between Anthony Hopkins and Jeffrey Dean Morgan characters. The two really work well and have a genuine fondness for one another.

Hopkins plays Dr John Clancy a psychic who is brought in by Agent Joe Merriweather (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to help solve a series of murders. He is backed up by his partner Agent Katherine Cowles played by Abbie Cornish.

To be honest I didn’t really take to Abbie Cornish for most of the movie but by the end her performance did just about win me over.

Farrell uses those glaring eyes to ramp up the unease when he finally meets Anthony Hopkins character. It’s a pretty good performance.
