I’m continuing my look at Nicolas Cage films with an action crime thriller from 2012, this time Cage plays a bank robber that results in his daughter being kidnapped and held for ransom. So without further ado here’s my Stolen blu-ray review.
- Stolen (2012)
- Genre: Action Crime Thriller
- Directed by Simon West
- UK Rating 12
- Discs: 1
- Released By Lionsgate
- Blu-ray Released: 5 August 2013

Plot
Will Montgomery (Nicolas Cage) makes a living by carrying out heists on banks along with his team and he is very good at doing so. However when attempting to steal $10 million things go wrong leading to him being caught by the FBI. Things get even worse upon his release when one of his old team wants his share of the money that was never recovered and is willing to put someone’s life that Will loves very much on the line to get it.
Style / Direction
The film is directed by Simon West with the cinematography side of things taken care of by Jim Whitaker. First off the story is an engrossing one as we see Will’s life go from successful thief to convicted criminal and worse still his loved one is then kidnapped. This series of plotlines allows for a fast paced action thriller to be told in an extremely exciting and affective way. The film flows nicely as the story unfolds, this is expertly done by director Simon West.
Music / Audio Effects
The music is by Mark Isham and is serviceable but it’s the films use of the songs that really helps bring the soundtrack to life.
Acting / Characters
Nicolas Cage is superb as bank robber Will Montgomery. He is an expert in his field but following an unforeseen set of circumstances finds his world turn upside down. Cage is brilliant at playing this sort of role one in which his character has a personal relationship at stake unless he can deliver in time.
Backing him up are a solid group of actors, Josh Lucas plays Vincent an integral member of Will’s team, unfortunately when a job turns sour so does their relationship. Lucas’s physical transformation is simply amazing and kind of worrying so much so that Will is somewhat taken aback when he meets him eight years later.
Danny Huston is FBI agent Tim Harland the man determined to arrest Will Montgomery but when Will comes to him for help he refuses to believe what he is being told. Huston’s dialogue is delivered superbly and really enhances the overall experience.
Malin Åkerman plays Riley Simms the only female contingent of Will’s team, she actually fits in extremely well as both her acting and role in the film seemed to have been properly thought out and written. Akerman is an excellent choice for the role and works well with Nicolas Cage.
