Are you ready for a Denzel Washington Post-Apocalyptic, action movie? You may have already guessed which film I’m referring to. For those of you that didn’t guess correctly is of course The Book of Eli (2010). Is it any good I hear you say? Let’s take a look, so without further ado here’s my The Book of Eli blu-ray review.

- Genre: Post-Apocalyptic, Action
- Directed by The Hughes Brothers

Plot
Eli (Denzel Washington) is a nomad in a post-apocalyptic world following the bomb. However he has a found purpose to his life and has set out on a mission. He believes God has told him to keep safe and deliver a certain Holy book to the West Coast of the United States. However along the way he meets many desperate and evil people. Furthermore most seem to want to harm him and even steal his precious book.
Style / Direction
The films directed by The Hughes Brothers whilst the cinematography is handled by Don Burgess. This is definitely how you make a Post-Apocalyptic film. The look and feel is pretty spectacular. The use of long baron wasteland shots is executed exceptionally well. The rundown dusty wasteland is a far less colourful one than say Mad Max, which is also excellent (The original). The small towns are very much those you would find in a western setting. It all blends perfectly with the narrative.
Music / Audio Effects
The music score comes from Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross and Claudia Sarne.
Acting / Characters
The casting is what really impresses and is probably the reason the story really resonates. In essence you a have a good guy Eli (Denzel Washington) and a bad guy Carnegie (Gary Oldman). Carnegie wants the book that Eli has in his possession and will stop at nothing to obtain it. The book after all has the power to control the masses.
Both actors are on top form as they go head to head. However the supporting cast also delivers some well formed and interesting characters.
Jennifer Beals play Claudia a blind woman that lives with Carnegie along with her daughter. It appears to be an arrangement she has little choice in. Meanwhile her daughter Solara (Mila Kunis) is a bright but naive young woman that decides to follow the path of Eli. However Carnegie’s top lieutenant’s Redridge (Ray Stevenson) has designs on her.
The acting is exceptionally good whilst the characters are incredibly interesting.

Conclusion: The Book of Eli (2010) Film Review
The Book of Eli is a very stylishly made action packed Post-Apocalyptic movie. Its casting is simply superb whilst the story is very much a religious one of blind faith. There’s plenty of action and the film moves along at a good pace always holding you attention.
Make sure you add this one to you must see list. Washington is simply awesome.
