Two actors that I’ve always liked are Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. In fact they worked together in the 1994 action thriller Speed. That was a tense and thrilling film that saw the two forced to work together. The film I’m taking a look at here also sees them closely working together despite being separated by time. This one’s a romantic sci-fi film that I believe flew under many people’s radar. I’m here to rectify that so without further ado here’s my The Lake House blu-ray review.

- Genre: Romance
- Directed by Alejandro Agresti
- UK Rating 12

Plot
The year is 2006 and Dr. Kate Forrester (Sandra Bullock) is forced to leave the lake house which is her dream home. However she before she goes she leaves a note in the mailbox for the next owner. That note is picked up by Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves) when he moves in. The only problem being he reads it in the year 2004. What follows is a romance set two years apart.
Style / Direction
The films directed by Alejandro Agresti whilst the cinematography is handled by Alar Kivilo. It’s a beautifully made the film. Not only does it look fabulous but the story is very well told encapsulating that classic romantic film feel.
Music / Audio Effects
The music is composed by Rachel Portman and is in keeping with the genre. It’s gentle yet emotional.
Acting / Characters
This film proves that Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock still have that very special chemistry from Speed. In fact this film actually develops it a whole lot more due to the genre.

Conclusion: The Lake House (2006) Film Review
This is a unique take on the love story formula but one that results in a fabulous film. Both Bullock and Reeves produce superb performances. In fact it should have resulted in the film being considered an instant classic in my opinion at least. However somehow it didn’t quite receive the accolades it should have.
If you love films like Sleepless in Seattle then you are going to love The Lake House. In fact I’d say it’s a bit of an underrated or forgotten gem.
