Torso Blu-ray Review – Well Made 1973 Sergio Martino Giallo

Torso Blu-ray Review

I’ve been taking a look at a few of Sergio Martino’s giallo films. This time it’s my Torso blu-ray review. Made in 1973 and starring Suzy Kendall it tells the story of a masked serial killer lurking near a university. It’s available on bluray released by Shameless Screen Entertainment. Let’s find out if it’s worth a look.

  • Torso (1973)
  • Genre: Giallo
  • Directed by Sergio Martino
  • UK Rating 18
  • Discs: 1
  • Released By Shameless Films
  • Blu-ray Released: 25 September 2017

Plot

A masked serial killer is on the loose and several university students are victims. With several suspects under suspicion maybe fellow student Jane (Suzy Kendall) will identify the killer.

Style / Direction

The film’s directed by Sergio Martino whilst Eugenio Alabiso handled the cinematography. It has some rather nice locations and the camera fully utilises them. There’s also a house that overlooks the town in which several of the female students retreat to.

Music / Audio Effects

The music is provided by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis.

Acting / Characters

I’d say the acting is solid enough without being anything special. Everyone plays their respective roles well enough.

  • Suzy Kendall as Jane
  • Tina Aumont as Dani

Conclusion: Torso (1973) Film Review

I enjoyed the film and would class it as a decent giallo. It has all the main elements you would expect such as lots of murders and several potential killers. It does a pretty good job of trying to disguise the identity of the killer but I guessed right and I think you will too.

Overall Sergio Martino delivers an entertaining but relatively simple story. It’s a well made with some nice camera angles and locations used.

Conclusion: Torso Blu-ray Review

The film now looks fabulous having been restored. There are a couple of drops in quality but these only appear in the newly inserted cut scenes. Those sequences also lack English audio and therefore have English subtitles added.

Shameless claim this to be the most complete English version which is nice to see. On the extras front there’s a 23 minute interview with director Sergio Martino. Worth a look if you are interested in the film or giallo genre in general, be aware it is in Italian and has English subtitles.
