UK Cinema Charts March 9 2018 – Have You Watched Gringo?

It’s that time of the week when we take a quick look at the box office films this week and find out which movies are hot.  There were four main new releases in cinemas across the UK last week but how many of them make this week’s top 10.  Did Black Panther manage to hold on to the coveted number one spot?  Let’s find out, these are the figures for UK Cinema Charts March 9 2018.

Well let’s answer the last question first, yes Marvel’s Black Panther stays top for a fourth week in a row taking over £2.9 million.  Compare this figure to the film that sits at number two with over £1.5 million, what is this film you may ask, well its 20th Century Fox’s The Greatest Showman that audiences simply can’t seem to get enough of.

Now let’s take a look at those new entries, oh wait none of the new films out last week make it into the top 10 films chart.  The highest entry You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix only manages to enter at 12 followed by Gringo in 13.  Worse still is the comedy Walk Like a Panther that lands at 21 followed by the Nicolas Cage comedy horror Mom and Dad at 26.

What is the reason for such poor a showing?  Well to be fair most of these films are not in as many cinemas as say Black Panther which is currently showing in 585.  Compare that against You Were Never Really Here’s mere 77 and you will realise it’s actually done very well.  That said Gringo was shown in 423 cinemas and only makes 13th place so that really is poor business and looks likely to only get worse in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri climbs from number 12 last week into 10th position.

Recent Blu-ray/DVD releases?

That concludes our look at the UK Cinema Charts March 9 2018, come back next week to see whether Black Panther can hold on to the number one spot on the UK Top 10 Film Chart.
